And I’m not talking about your calendar, full as it might be. No, what I mean is the sheer volume of great books available to readers this fall is STAGGERING. Truly, the biggest literary season I can remember, and I’ve been working in books since 2011!
Our 8th annual Fall Book Preview experience is your trusty companion to this superlative season: what’s coming out, what’s worth your reading time, what I have particularly enjoyed so far. In our Preview, I share a curated, eclectic assortment of this fall’s titles, chosen from the biggest books of fall and also niche picks you’re unlikely to hear about elsewhere.
As has been my custom, I’ve been reading publisher catalogs for well over a year to assemble this year’s offering. As always, I chose these titles one by one, with my own brain: relying not on algorithms or AI but on my readerly instincts, plenty of research, and my experience in reading thirty-six of these books in full myself (as of August 17 as I type this) and parts of a hundred more. And that number will keep going up!

A refined vision for 2026
I wanted to do something different with our 2026 lookbook. I envisioned a preview dense with readerly options, brimming with possibilities: a lookbook you could dig into, mark up, and refer to often.
And more than ever before, our 2026 lookbook stands alone, apart from Unboxing, and from the beginning we prioritized a low price point for our printed version without sacrificing the thoughtfulness and design that characterize our past previews and guides. Your richest experience will still come from perusing our lookbook and watching Unboxing: you’ll still hear more nuance, context, and details there, plus my personal experience with each book. We will email the Fall Book Preview digital PDF lookbook on Thursday, September 17th at noon EDT. If you don’t see it in your inbox, please search your inbox for “Your 2026 Fall Book Preview is here!” If that still doesn’t turn it up then email us at support@modernmrsdarcy.com.
How will the Fall Book Preview experience be delivered?
We will deliver the Fall Book Preview digital PDF lookbook by email on Thursday, September 17 at noon EDT. Please check that you’re getting regular email updates from us in your primary inbox and that our emails are marked “important.” Please make sure they aren’t going to your spam folder. Whether you purchased the Fall Book Preview experience a la carte or as a member of one of our communities the PDF can also be found online. If you purchased a la carte you would find that in your MMD Shop Account area.
We will send an Unboxing invite (zoom link) to your same inbox one hour prior to Unboxing on September 17th. Unboxing is at 8:00 pm EDT: we will send your invite at 7:00 pm EDT.
What's included with my Fall Book Preview experience purchase?
Your a la carte Fall Book Preview experience purchase (as distinct from accessing the Preview as a member of one of our communities) includes the Fall Book Preview digital PDF lookbook delivered on September 17th, an invite to our live Unboxing event on the 17th at 8:00 p.m. EDT, and access to the recorded event video to watch on your schedule.
Please note the printed delivered-by-snail-mail lookbook is not included in the original Fall Book Preview experience. If you’d like your print lookbook, hurray! Please add the Fall Book Preview bundle to your cart. If I'm a member, do I need to buy the Fall Book Preview experience?
You do not! If you are (or become) an MMD Book Club member or a What Should I Read Next patron at the Bonuses and Events or All-Inclusive tiers, the original Fall Book Preview digital experience (including Unboxing) is an included perk of your membership. You’ll still receive the Preview PDF on September 17th by email, so please check that you’re receiving emails from us and/or have patreon notifications turned on.
I'd rather become a member than buy the Preview a la carte. How do I join?
We would love to have you! For Book Club members and WSIRN patrons in the Bonuses and Events or All-Inclusive tiers the original Fall Book Preview experience is an included membership perk. But there’s so much more to our communities! Here’s some info to help you decide which is a better fit for you.
Our communities have different scopes and emphases: we think of our Patreon offerings as being bite-sized, while MMD Book Club is a buffet. We encourage you to choose the one that best works for you and your reading life. (20% of our readers are members of both communities.)
Our WSIRN Patreon community is an extension of the What Should I Read Next podcast, and offers Friday bonus episodes (e.g., One Great Book, Mini Matchmaking, Industry Insights), peeks behind the scenes, and additional curated book recommendations to our readers in that space. Patreon is audio-first, which means you can mostly participate when it’s convenient for you. Our patrons also influence the show by offering input on future episode themes, guests, and voting on our episode titles. (Please note the Fall Book Preview experience is not included in the Ad-Free tier.)
Our slate of Book Club offerings is robust, which is why we call it a buffet: we offer lots of great literary content in this space, and don’t expect you to put everything on your plate! We host many live events in this space, including monthly book and author discussions, regular classes on literature and the reading life, and community events like our Readers’ Weekend, Best Book of Summer, Reading Life Rehab, Readalongs, Join Us for Journaling, and more. Our live events are video-driven, but you don’t need to attend live to participate: we record our events so you can watch on your schedule. Do I have to purchase the Fall Book Preview digital experience to purchase the printed lookbook?
No, you can purchase just the printed lookbook. However, this does not include an invite to our Unboxing party or the replay video of that event.
If I order a printed lookbook when will I get it?
We are shipping these first class mail so delivery times depend on how far you are from us in Louisville, Kentucky. Preorders will go out by September 17th, Fall Book Preview day.
Can I get a printed lookbook shipped to a non-US address?
Unfortunately, at this time we are only shipping within the US. We are a small team and shipping physical products is not our main job so we simply can’t keep up with all of the changes currently happening with international trade.
